A family farm on twenty acres of Post Oak Savannah

in Central Texas

What We Grow

  • We have a small herd of unregistered Nubian, Alpine, and Nubian-Alpine cross dairy goats. Our core group was purchased from Bee Tree Farm & Dairy in Manor. TX. These goats give us milk, laughter, and kids each spring. Join our herd share for your own fresh milk. Buck services are available for rent. Kids are for sale each year to build your own herds, have as meat, or love as pets.

  • We have an apiary on the property and sustainably harvest honey twice a year. Our queens are from BeeWeaver Honey Farm and Katie completed the 12 week beekeeper apprenticeship program from Two Hives Honey. Bees can travel up to a 3 mile radius from their hives as they collect pollen and nectar to ferment into honey. So a jar from our bees is a microcosm of the season at Luminaria Acres.

  • We have a small herd of black and red Angus cows and heifers. We are developing our beef program and will have cattle shares available in the future.

  • We grow seasonally available produce, herbs, and culinary flowers for market and our restaurant partners. Find us at the Smithville Farmers’ Market on Sundays. Need wholesale listings? Email Randall.

Hello From Katie

We purchased this property in the Fall of 2020 after the first pandemic year in an East Austin home. Neither of us was raised in an agricultural family, but we had long standing passions for local food economies, hosting events large & small, and getting outdoors.

I grew up overseas and in Texas, then majored in Anthropology at Bryn Mawr College, writing my thesis on the Reading Terminal farmer’s market in Philadelphia. I’ve always found time and space to grow things.

My vision for Luminaria Acres is an environment of lush vegetable gardens, flourishing native plants and fauna, and thriving approachable livestock. A place where friends and neighbors visit to reflect, relax, and connect. An integrated part of our food systems to keep us eating in a less than 100 mile radius!

Hello from Randall

I am a chef, cellist, and composer originally from New Mexico. Having folded thousands of Luminaria bags for my Youth Symphony program (and grown up with them at all holidays in Albuquerque and Santa Fe), it’s only fitting that the farm be named after such an integral part of my upbringing.

Under the tutelage of chefs Kevin Fink, Michael Freid, and Rochelle Woollard, I’ve always sourced produce and proteins from local farmers and ranchers. For the last fifteen years, a deep connection formed while working with inspiring members of the Central Texas farming community. Raising livestock and implementing regenerative growth practices becomes Luminaria Acres.

For 2023, my focus will be maintaining the breeding standards of our Angus herd and cultivating a two-acre green chile field, paying homage to the countless pounds of Hatch chile consumed since childhood.

This Land

This part of Bastrop County was the historic home of the Tonkawa and Lipan Apache tribes. The Tonkawa tribal government is now based in Oklahoma, and the Lipan Apache in McAllen, TX.

Monetary contributions are given to both tribes monthly.
